Risk of damage to your piano and injury to our team virtually disappears when your piano movers come properly equipped and have years of experienced. The blankets that we use are high density, top of the line moving blankets. And most importantly, they are CLEAN.

Here are our piano board stands. No other piano moving company uses these. This is a Luna's Piano Moving invention. It reduces the risk of damage to your piano and takes a load off of our piano movers when setting down and lifting grand pianos.
If you take a look, you will see that the bottom legs are covered. These help protect your delicate floors from dents and scratches. At the top, we have a blue rubber capping feature. This allows the piano to firmly grip onto the stands.
Since Luna's Piano Moving & Storage builds its own piano moving equipment, we have made all equipment compatible with each other. Our piano dollies match the level of our piano board stands. What does this mean and why should you care? Because all of this helps make your piano moving experience a positive one. Our team follows one method of moving, with the same equipment specs on a daily basis.
We move pianos with style!
Our entire piano moving process can be moved by one person, even a 9ft concert grand. However, we never use one person to move a piano, even if its a small upright. Our idea behind our piano moving method is that if 1 person can move a concert grand without help, then a piano is in good hands when 2 of our piano moving experts are on the job.
We wrap each leg and the piano lyre individually. Our thick moving blankets provide your piano with the protection that it requires.
Moving a piano is a multi-step process. As you can see from the images below, a lot of work goes into moving a piano. From properly wrapping and padding the piano to using the right moving equipment such as; Piano dollies, piano boards, floor protection, ramps, moving trucks and most importantly, the right experience behind your move. Our professional piano movers are ready to move your piano. Whether it's a small spinet piano or a 9.5ft concert grand, our team can properly handle your piano moving needs.
Threshold ramps, walkboards and low profile loading ramps
Here we see our team using 2 types of ramps. Our low provide enclosed trailers reduce the risk of an accident occurring while loading and/or unloading a piano. We have used EVERY type of moving vehicle when moving pianos. Over the years we found that the best, safes and quickest way to move a piano is with low provide trailers. Why? Because the ramps are so low that they are almost completely flat. In addition, the ramps are wide and allow for a greater margin of error should something go wrong.
In this image, we see the low provide enclosed trailer ramp and then we see an additional 6ft tramp being used to go up onto a curb. These tools really help give your piano the smooth transport that it requires.
Using 3 different size loading ramps. One size doesn't fit all
At the very bottom we see the 12ft ramp (strong enough to handle 2 concert grands!).
Next up we see the 4ft aluminum pallet ramp (a 1400lbs capacity). This ramp helps us cover 2 or 3 steps.
Another ramp follows that, and another etc... You get the picture.
One would think that all piano movers carry these ramps, but the truth is they don't. Movers are left to their own devices and are forced to carry or drag a piano up down stairs on the piano dolly. There is nothing wrong with dragging or sliding pianos on piano boards, that's what they are for, but it puts a lot of weight on the movers and the piano boards can sometimes scratch the steps (even if blankets are used to cover the steps). We do use this method, but only when absolutely necessary. Unfortunately ramps do not always fit tight spaces.

All terrain piano moving
Moving a piano through flat and smooth surfaces isn't always an option. Sometimes a house is built on a hill or there is a long dirt, grass or gravel path to travel though. We have the ability to transport your piano through tough and uneven terrain. Sometimes an all terrain dolly isn't enough though. In cases where the ground is severely uneven or in cases where the all terrain tires aren't big enough. We use the assistance of wooden planks.
Moving a 9'2" Concert Grand Piano (1400lbs)
We can move ANY kind of piano. Here we have a piano that is amongst the largest and heaviest pianos around. It is especially heavy because it has a player system. A piano this large should not be moved my amateurs or generic household movers. We have top of the line piano moving equipment. Nobody has the equipment that we have. It's hard to believe, but they either have one piece but not the rest. Throughout the years we've noticed that movers like to take shortcuts and cut cost by using generic moving equipment that is meant for furniture. We have invested thousands on the best piano moving equipment. For this piano we used quite a few different pieces to move such a large, rare and expensive piano.
First we cover your piano in blankets and attach the tilter
A concert grand piano is the largest of all pianos. It is by far the most difficult to move (next to square grands) and heaviest. To move a piano of this size, you will need professionals. The images above show us covering this Yamaha concert grand in multiple layers of high quality moving blankets. You will not find these moving blankets in Home Depot or Harbor freight. These blankets are made to move heavy, delicate items.
In the third image, we see one of our movers installing the piano tilter. This device allows ONE man to tilt a grand piano onto a piano board. However, we never send out just one mover. We always send 2-3, it's just safer.
Time to tilt!
Here we see that our team has installed the piano tilter and successfully tilts this 1400lbs Concert Grand onto one of Luna's Piano Boards. If you look closely, you'll also see that our piano board is mounted on our all terrain piano dolly. If you look even closer, you'll also notice that we are using our Piano Board Stands as an additional safety measure. When moving a piano of this size and value, we take no chances and bring out our best equipment.
Remove tilter, secure piano onto the piano board and ready to roll!
Now that the piano has been tilted onto our custom made piano board (view why we started making them) we secure it onto the all terrain piano dolly using our E-Track straps. Sure, it might look like its overkill using so many moving blankets, but the more padding surrounding your piano, the safer it will be during the moving process. If it were to accidentally bump into a wall, doorway, furniture piece etc... it will be safe and scratch/dent free.
Our teams safety and the protection of your piano are by far our top priority.
Time to go down 4 steps using a 10ft ramp
Here we see another piece of equipment in action. Our 10ft loading ramp has a 1500lbs load capacity. Remember, this piano weighs close to 1400lbs, add the blankets, dolly, board and our 2 movers, it is definitely being put to the test. It is a steep incline for a large piano.
Luckily, our customer was able to do us a favor and record this moment. Check out the video below!
Ready to load and strap down
Now that we have moved the piano down to the street level, we're ready to load the piano onto our piano moving trailer and strap it down. As you can see in the images above, our piano moving trailers are low profile. This means that it is almost impossible to drop or damage a piano.
We have moved thousands of pianos throughout the years and have used just about every piece of piano moving equipment. We only keep what works!
